Description

Edit: I apologize for the rampant typos - I made this quickly while trying to explain techniques to an odd-English speaking friend.

To see the details and read the text better, please download this tutorial. (The smaller view is available direct on DA due to the size- it would be impossible to flip through and read in some browsers.)

This is a very intermediate tutorial.

Often I'm asked how I do my textures- and there is no easy, quick answer. I find everything can be broken down by parts. Feathers, hair, fur, eyes, lips, human skin, leather dinosaur skin and scales.. This is the 'wet skin' tutorial for those rockin' it old school with GIMP- like me! Photoshop users should check out DanLuVisiArt and his 'Venom' tutorial.

So the short answer- I use a crap ton of grain merge and regular overlays and keep merging them down, using texture brushes and pictures of my bathroom floor (desaturated on overlay) in most of my heavy-detail works. This, however, uses only GIMP and the brushes that come with it- going back to the origins of my knowing anything about digital art.

I hope you can make sense of this quick throw-together, and enjoy!
